Why We Started

The Augustus the Warrior Foundation was created in honor of our son, Augustus “Gus” Britton, who bravely fought stage IV high-risk neuroblastoma for three and a half years. Gus was only two and a half years old when he was diagnosed, and in that moment, our world changed forever.

His fight was fierce, his spirit was unbreakable, and his light continues to shine in everything we do.

Through Gus’s journey, we experienced firsthand the realities of childhood cancer. The treatments, hospital stays, uncertainty, and desperate need for better options. We also learned just how meaningful moments of joy can be in the middle of something so difficult. A meal delivered during a long hospital stay. A toy that made a hard day a little brighter. Time away together as a family to simply make memories.

The Augustus the Warrior Foundation was created to carry those lessons forward and turn Gus’s legacy into action.

The Augustus Britton Fund

A cornerstone of our mission is the Augustus Britton Fund, an endowment established to provide lasting support for childhood cancer research at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

The fund supports the Innovative Therapeutics Program at Arkansas Children’s Hospital, helping advance research and treatment options for children facing cancer. Our hope is to help move research forward so that children diagnosed in the future have more treatment options, gentler treatments, and ultimately, cures. This program also helps to keep kids home. Gus was able to stay ‘home home’ while undergoing clinical trials thanks to the Innovative Therapeutics Program.

Because this is an endowment, the Augustus Britton Fund was created with the future in mind. Gus’s name and legacy will continue helping fund childhood cancer research for years to come.

Creating Memories for Families

We also know that childhood cancer affects the entire family. When so much of life becomes centered around appointments, treatments, scans, and hospital stays, simply getting to be together as a family can mean everything.

Through our vacation program, the Augustus the Warrior Foundation helps provide respite vacations for families facing childhood cancer, giving them an opportunity to step away from treatment, spend intentional time together, and create memories with the people they love most.

This part of our mission is especially close to our hearts. Some of our most cherished memories with Gus were made while traveling together. We know firsthand that those memories become priceless.

Supporting Families Along the Way

Throughout the year, we also look for meaningful ways to support children and families actively walking through childhood cancer. Through meals, toys, holiday giving, special events, and other acts of care, we want families to know that they are seen, supported, and surrounded by a community that cares.

Everything we do comes back to one purpose: honoring Gus by helping children and families facing childhood cancer today while fighting for a better future for those diagnosed tomorrow.

We believe no child should have to endure what Gus and so many other children have faced.

This is Gus’s legacy. And it is our promise to him: to keep his light shining, to create joy and hope in his name, and to keep fighting for children and families affected by childhood cancer.
